Set in the heart of Whistler Village, this ski townhouse was ready for a new chapter. The renovation involved the kitchen and three bathrooms, with a focus on creating a fresher, more functional home that could withstand the realities of mountain life and frequent guests — without losing the character that made it distinctly Whistler.

The original slate floors and warm fir detailing were to remain, becoming the foundation for everything that followed.

How do you modernize a traditional Whistler chalet without designing away the very things that give it character?

Rather than replacing the home's original finishes, the challenge was to work with them. The slate flooring and orange-toned fir brought warmth and history, but the surrounding spaces needed to feel lighter, more current and far more functional. As a ski rental, every material and design decision also needed to balance beauty with durability, storage and everyday practicality.

We treated the existing character as an asset, not an obstacle.

Warm wood cabinetry carries the original fir tones into the new spaces, while a quieter palette of natural stone, soft neutrals and restrained finishes brings balance and a more contemporary feel. Storage was thoughtfully integrated throughout, and materials were selected not only for how they looked on day one, but for how they would live through wet boots, ski gear, guests and years of Whistler weekends.

The result is a home that feels renewed rather than reinvented. Rooted in the traditional Whistler chalet, with a more considered way of living within it.
