First time home buyers with two small children and a carefully considered budget, the goal was to refresh the existing kitchen rather than replace it.

The clients wanted a space that felt brighter and more intentional, with better storage and functionality for everyday family life.

Working within a modest budget meant being thoughtful about where change would have the greatest impact. Rather than replacing what was already functional, we looked for ways to give the existing kitchen a fresh identity while preserving what could stay and reserving the budget for the elements that would genuinely improve how the family used the space.

The existing cabinetry was given new life with a fresh coat of paint, updated hardware and new countertops — creating a fresh, more refined feel without replacing what was already working.

By saving the budget here, we were able to put it where it would make a bigger impact. We filled in an unused wall to create additional upper storage and designed a custom coffee bar with overflow storage within an existing awkward void.

With no room in the budget to bring electrical into the stairwell for additional lighting, we had to get creative.

Instead, we designed a translucent wall that allows natural and ambient light from the kitchen to filter through into the stairwell — helping us meet the functional codes required without closing the space off completely.
